To God be the glory! In humbleness, I would like to introduce myself throughout this simple autobiography.
In 1980 I was naturally born in Bacon Sorsogon, Philippines. second sibling of Miguel and Flor Ducay, raised in Sta. Mesa Manila with my sister, Mary Jane and deaf elder brother, Miguel.
I Started drawing with a pencil at age of eleven with the influence of my childhood friend’s grandfather Nemesio G. Cachuel II(Lolo Sandro), who was a conservative painter, a journalist, a cyclist, an idealistic and a creative artist of miniature Bahay Kubo (a native Filipino house) made of broom sticks; likewise, I started to paint as well.
In 2001, I earned the degree of Bachelor Science in Criminology at the Philippine College of Criminology. Registered Criminologist in 2003.
In 2002, together with my fellow members of the Artists Guild of the Members Church of God International, I was mentored by boy Albario in Tondo, Manila. Albario was a well-known painter and artist along the famous stretch of Mabini Street in Manila during the 1970s to the 1990s. He later became overseas Filipino Worker (OFW). The late Boy Albario contributed to the development of my artistic style and techniques, particularly in the traditional approach to painting.
Additonally, Virgilio Prontes also guided our Artist’s Guild group in creating streamers, paintings, and illustrations. He was a respected painter and a comics illustrator during his time, and his mentorship further enriched my artistic skills.
I supported myself financially as a freelance artist by selling my early paintings. Later, through the recommendation of co-artist, Roy Urap, who led the team, I became a regular visual artist at Z-Graphix Co., located in Little Baguio, San Juan City, where I worked on large scale backdrops, sculptures, and other decorative installations for parties and events.
In 2019 before the COVID 19 pandemic, I joined the BSP Art Club and met several accomplished artists in the group and became actively involved in the local art community. Through the club, I sold impressionist works.
On 7th June 2024, I received my first Certificate of Attendance and Completion for “The Art of Restoration and Conservation of Paintings and Paper”, Batch 1, conducted by Sanfo 101 and Assist. Professor Crisencio Paner, Ph.D. in Biological. On the other hand, I became a member of the Professional Art Restorers Society of the Philippines (PARSPA).
Beyond my artistic practice, I am actively involved in community service through Lions International District 301-A2. As of the founding members of the Philippine Art Ambassadors Lions Club, I help advance initiatives that connect art with public service. Together with President Jerry Contridas, Guiding Lions Feng Villanueva, and fellow artists from various art group, we promote programs that use creativity as a platform for community engagement and social impact. I currently serve as Secretary of the club.
As an impressionist artist, I began by exploring the interplay of light, shadow, and color, eventually developing a contemporary approach to the movement. Through my artistic journey. I discovered a deeper appreciation for the unseen qualities of a subject. the subtle energies, emotions, and atmospheres that exist beyond visible form. By incorporating these “invisible colors” into my compositions. I create greater depth, movement, and a sense of aura within my works. This evolving philosophy led me to develop what I describe as “Impressionism of Invisible Colors.” a style that bridges impressionism and expressionism, transforming perception into emotional and spiritual experience.
Nevertheless, I’m still developing my technique and artistic capability, its innovation and progress by maintaining conservative and conventional approach to contribute and inspire.
